Jules & Eve
By Kristi Carignan

There a few things about the Kerrisdale neighbourhood that I love; the peacefulness of the streets, the uniqueness of the shops, and now, Jules & Eve. This new store on the block has quickly made a name for itself in Vancouver by featuring the best in stylish clothing and accessories for women.

Just like every other girl, I love shopping. Clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories, you name it, I love it. But with the abundance of mass-produced clothing companies, I have an undeniable fear of looking exactly like everyone else on the street. This is where the uniqueness of Jules & Eve comes in. Located on a charming block of West 41st Avenue, Jules & Eve is every woman's dream closet.

Since a young age, store owner Sara Au Yeong had always dreamed of working in fashion.

After graduating from John Casablanca's fashion merchandising and makeup artistry programs and working several retail merchandising positions, Au Yeong put her education to the test and started Arivial, a cosmetic distribution, public relations and consulting company. This was a great start to the career Au Yeong had always wanted, but she wanted more. On November 1st, 2008, Au Yeong's dream came true and Jules & Eve opened its doors to a very welcoming reception.

Known as the "dress store," Jules & Eve carries New York and LA labels including Tracy Reese, Jay Godfrey and Betsey Johnson, in addition to local designers Jason Matlo, Lily + Jae and Christina Darling. The store also carries a lovely assortment of shoes and accessories including jewelry and belts, and is the exclusive Canadian retailer to carry the Stila line of cosmetics. All of Au Yeong's staff are professionally trained in makeup application.

Au Yeong's personal sense of style is impeccable and her store is quickly altering the Kerrisdale shopping scene for the better. Considering work as "playtime," Au Yeong loves merchandising the store with the weekly clothing deliveries and loves coordinating the various colours, patterns and styles to make everything visually appealing to her customers. In order to have a keen understanding of the fit and style of each garment, Au Yeong and her staff try on all items so they can especially serve their customers and make suggestions when customers arrive looking for something particular for a special occasion. To Au Yeong, providing excellent service to her customers is paramount and necessary as she and her staff pride themselves on recognizing their customers by name when they enter the store. This "one to one service advantage," as Au Yeong prefers to call it, is what sets Jules & Eve apart from other stores in the neighbourhood. To add to the unique shopping experience at the store, Jules & Eve carries only a limited number of garments per style so customers know that when they leave with a new piece of clothing they have purchased something which is truly one-of-a-kind.

Jules & Eve offers an elegant, fashion-forward wardrobe for both a mature and young clientèle, think Sex and the City glamour meets Gossip Girl uptown fashion. Drop by the store and see for yourself. You certainly won't regret the visit.
