Wanny Tang Store Launch
by Vanessa Lewis

Champagne? Check. Live DJ spinning upbeat music? Check. Fabulous guests? Check! One of Vancouver's established designers, Wanny Tang opened her new Kerrisdale boutique in style. The intimate gathering of guests was personally greeted by Wang who showed us her store's collection. She has something for every girl whether you want an athletic outfit or a cocktail dress. The predominant colours of her collection popped against the store's all-white palette.

Wang treated her guests to a special presentation of her Spring 2009 collections. The show started off with casual pieces with cut outs that could be layered or worn on its own. The show shifted to athletic-inspired pieces including pleated skirts with a peek-a-boo of contrasting colors. Then came tops, skirts, and dresses which would be perfect for the career woman. Beautifully tailored pencil skirts created a seamless segue to ladylike day dresses. A long, white v-neck dress concluded the show.

Everything from shoes to hats, handbags to clothing are available at Tang's boutique. The wool handbags and hats handmade in Italy showcased her expertise in sourcing high quality fabrics. The wool coats and minimalist clothing complete the boutique's chic ambiance.

Wanny Tang's boutique is located in Kerrisdale at 2029 West 41st Ave. For more information, please visit her website at www.wannytang.com

Two of Heart Store Launch
by Marilyn R.Wilson

Just in time for Valentines Day! Long time local designers Jenny Yen and Tabitha Savoie have taken the ultimate step for any designer - opening their own boutique. At the media launch on Friday night we were treated to some wine, a little sushi, a walk through their current collections and a mini fashion show. The new space has a clean and inviting aura. Brass rods to hang the garments are mounted against white walls making the colour pallette of the collections pop. A vivid red feature wall at the back of the boutique adds both energy and warmth.

For those not in the know, Jenny Yen designs the Cici label, Tabitha Savoie the Togs label and together they now co-design Two of Hearts. The CiCi collection "..makes city chic a breeze with modern, wearable silhouettes and a dash of vintage glam." It is the more upscale of the 3 labels and is produced in limited quantities. Togs is an "...indie fashion for the artistic, street-savvy women" with everything from leg warmers to jackets. Their joint collection, Two of Hearts, is an eco-friendly line in organic cotton, soy and bamboo using low-impact dyes. The pieces are "... fun, streetwise separates are perfect for girls on-the-go who crave comfort and style." All three labels are manufactured in Vancouver. Filling out your shopping experience you will find handmade goods and accessories by other Vancouver designers and artists.

Visit their website at www.two-of-hearts-clothing.com for location, store hours and an inside peak at some of the great pieces you'll find there.

JC Studios Fashionista Brunch Series
by Marilyn Wilson

It's been on my list for over a year, but I finally managed to make time to attend one of the exclusive JC Studio Fashionista Brunches. For several months in the spring and again in the fall, designer RozeMerie Cuevas invites customers in to have a few mimosas, a bit of brunch and a to check out her current collection (as well as pieces still in stock from the previous one). For anyone interested in a relaxing couple hours of being pampered while shopping for some beautiful clothes, this is the place to be.

One of the best aspects of the brunch for me was the chance to work with one of the in-house wardrobe consultants. My consultant first took me through the Fall and Spring pieces and then, after the fashion show giving us all a look at the new collection, helped me to choose an array of garments to try on. I received feedback on the looks, was surprised by a couple pieces I loved that I NEVER would have thought to try on and the pants I chose had minor adjustments pinned in right in the dressing room to give them that perfect fit. A bonus is that all tailoring on the garments is done in-house. My buy of the day was one of their gorgeous fall coats that was marked down 50%. Yes I'm the one who asked for snow this last week so I had a chance to show it off!

Brunches are held on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and continue through March and April. While they are no cost to the public, you do need to book a reservation as they limit the numbers to provide more personal service. To check out their current collection go to the website at www.jcstudio.ca. To reserve a spot in an upcoming brunch please phone the studio at 604 688 5222.

Vancouver Model Search 2008
by Alicia-Rae Light

On February 20th, the conclusion to the long awaited 2008 Vancouver Model Search Lollypop Fashion Show Final was revealed. Hosted by Strawberry Nights, the lavish event was held at the Landmark Empire Hotel on Robson Street. Starting in August 2008, each month 10 models competed in shows where two winners were chosen. Nine finalists from those shows were chosen to compete in the final round.

The ultimate prize? A modeling contract, and an all expenses paid trip across the pond to the world's most energetic and dynamic fashion capital - London, England. There, the winner will represent Vancouver on an international stage. In the grand ballroom, bejeweled with crystal chandeliers, DJ Paul Cardoso from Montreal mixed as the nine finalists showed clothing provided by Wear Else, Malena, and Bomba Collection.

Winning by a small margin decided by four judges the18-year-old exotic stunner Renata De Oliveira from Brasilia graciously accepted the well-deserved trip of a lifetime. The 5' 8 beauty walked down the runway each time with pure passion and confidence. Runner up 5'10 Alicia Crudo from Vancouver had the most amazing set of legs on the runway. Her dark exotic features come from a mix of African, Argentinian and Haitian heritage. She received a six-month pass to the new Steve Nash Sports Club.

Models were styled by Jillian Crago and Kristy Rogerson of Operation Style and an after party was held at Cecil lounge in celebration of all the producers and lovely ladies hard work.
