Luxury from the inside out
By Casey Strynadka
Becoming a designer, of any sort, takes a history of love and passion for what you design. For Natalie Meyer, the founder of Sienna Ray & Co, it was when she was four years old that she had made her first handbag. Many years later in 2007 Sienna Ray was created and had launched its first collection of luxury handbags. Since the time of its launch, Sienna Ray & Co. has seen an overwhelming demand for their handbags and has since added more styles, more leathers and has grown across Canada and into the United States.
Meyer believes that every woman has many characteristics; elegance, class, confidence and a sense of adventure. She takes these features and portrays them in her stylish, yet classic designs. The leathers used for her collection are soft and luxurious consisting of lamb, calf and goat. These lush leathers are used to create her trendy styles. The most unique of these is her use of reclaimed leather made from salmon skin to create her eco-friendly salmon clutch collection. Meyer uses the term "eco-luxury" when explaining why she chose to use reclaimed salmon skin. "I wanted the lush, exotic look the salmon skin has to offer (while not endangering animals) and at price points that enable Sienna Ray's clientele to have one in each color!"
Meyer's most popular selling handbag is the 'mak' bag. A 4-in-1 messenger bag that you can wear as a clutch, a satchel, and as a purse with a longer shoulder strap. To make the longer look more stylish, if you please, fold down one of the corners and you get your fourth look. A very versatile handbag and every woman's dream come true - four handbags in one! Made in shrunken lambskin and calfskin, the 'mak' bag comes in various colors from subtle, soft black to vibrant, textured purple.
Her most famed piece is her chic 'sunday' belt purse. Worn around your hips, the 'sunday' has two sleek and handy pockets which make up this trendy fanny pak. Not only loved by local Vancouverites, but when the celebrities hit the town in search of unique finds they come in search of the 'sunday'. Halle Berry and Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks have both bought a 'sunday' belt purse for themselves while they visited Vancouver.
Looking forward to see what Sienna Ray & Co. has coming up for Fall 2009? The theme is Nautical. After such success with the mak and sunday, Sienna Ray's admirers await this fall's revamped messenger bag, and another unique belt purse. The addition of new color choices for all of her bags, new and old, is the perfect way to find something amazing for fall.
