John Casablanca Graduating Class Has Heart
By Jessica Rolli

On February 12 John Casablanca's graduating class hosted the cleverly titled, I Heart Fashion Show. Not only was the Eight Girls + a Guy's production just in time for Valentines Day, it was also a fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon.

The sculpted columns and 18th century stonework of Heritage Hall on Main Street was the perfect canvas for the luxurious draping and romantic rose-tinted lighting that seductively whispered to its guests. DJ Maze ensured the boudoir atmosphere didn't put anyone to sleep with his house mixed beats.

The event MC was Carlie Wong, a contestant from Project Runway Canada, whose next collection will soon be showing in Toronto.

A definite highlight of the evening was the opening violin performance from Kytami, who fused her musical skills with hip-hop and electronic tracks. The eclectic mixture was a foreshadowing to the looks that were to follow, as nine local boutiques and designers made appearances on the runway.

Kiki & Chels really played with this spring's floral trend, showing wide-legged pants, an above-the-knee skirt and some lovely scarves that were all blooming with pretty little pink and purple petals. The spring pastels and translucent chiffons that most collections favored were broken up by the edgy street wear from Sacred Soul, whose black and white sweatshirts and t-shirts were decorated with some great graphics. Whether it be dragons, aboriginal skulls, dagger-pierced hearts or Chinese characters, any of the designs looked as if they could have been ripped straight off of a bikers arm. Zebraclub had all of the ladies in white tops and black and white tablecloth scarves, mixing it up with varied bottoms and accessories. Subtle jewelry and skinny jeans for a more uptown look, and big plastic-rim sunglasses with flared jeans to dress the scarf-shirt combo down.

Great designs from Bench, dace, One of a Few & Two of a Few, Kensie, Sunja link and The Bay were also shown.
