Sep. 13 Cool Versus Cruel Fashion Summer 2011 at The Art Institute of Vancouver (2655 Renfrew St.) The school's Cool vs. Cruel competition challenges students to reinterpret and improve a runway look that uses animal fur by creatively replacing it with cruelty-free alternatives. Students have to use key elements from the runway designs by Fendi, Alexander McQueen, Gucci, or Oscar de la Renta as inspiration for an original animal-friendly creation. 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Dress to impress and wear your best faux fur! Sep. 18 Ivan Sayers, the Passionate Collector and His Collection at Hycroft Manor (1489 MacRae Ave.) On the day before his 65th birthday, Ivan Sayers will reminisce about the development of his extraordinary collection of historical garments from its beginnings in the Okanagan Valley. Prized garments will be displayed and personal stories shared.
