Veronica and Jesse
by MARILYN R. WILSON
When Veronica was 15, she moved from the small town of Lethbridge to Calgary and her life changed. She was scouted by a local agent and headed off to Asia where she worked in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Thailand. Now living in Vancouver and signed by Richard's International Model Management, she still gets butterflies in her stomach when she walks past a magazine rack and sees her face poking out. For her, modeling is, "...Fun. Exhilarating. It gives you a sense of accomplishment. I love being the canvas, the medium to bring designer's amazing work to people's eyes. I gather all of the emotion and energy I can muster to create a beautiful piece of art."
Veronica has established an impressive resume in only four short years. Her most memorable shoot to date was with MSN in Singapore. "We were shooting an advertisement with a very graceful styled look. To achieve this I had to jump around on a tiny trampoline for a couple of hours in insane heels. I had to keep my composure and not fall on my face. The end results were worth it!" Models who inspire her? Jessica Miller and the Isabella Cara. Favourite designers? Karl Lagerfield for Chanel, minimalist designer Pamela Tang and Eco designer Jeff Garner of Prophetik. When asked how her style has changed since becoming a model, her response was something we all need to take note of. "I realized it's not really what your wearing that defines you. So wear what makes you happy, without a motive behind it."
Jesse entered the spotlight as a kid actor on local television programs and didn't enter the fashion world until the age of 20. He remembers, "I really wanted to travel and had a few friends who modeled internationally. They always told me I should give it a try. The industry interested me, so I walked into Richard's International Model Management." The rest is history. What he enjoys most is the opportunity to travel and collect friends from all over the world. "It's such a weird lifestyle travelling around all the time and you become like one big extended family." What is hardest is missing everyone while he is on the road.
A keen sense of humour is an innate part of how he approaches life. When asked his best trade secret Jesse laughingly responded, "Rohto V, it's like a ski trip for your eyes, but not recommended by doctors. I really love that stuff. Or Botox." Proudest moment of his career so far was the chance to work with Jean Charles DeCastelbajac. Most memorable shoot? Flaunt Magazine with Lorenzo Marcucci. What would be his dream job? A Vivienne Westwood campaign. Personal style? "I try to emulate the hobos of Montreal." Other interests? Jesse is developing a variety show with Trevor Blumas called "Wolfy and Trev, Trev's Magical Kitchen." He hopes what people will take away from modeling is that different is cool and imitating someone else never works. Talent, drive and an ability to look at the lighter side of life will assure Jesse is a face we'll be seeing on the scene for a long time
